The Front Desk

The Front Desk, by D.C.Wayne

A couple years ago I started sketching some ideas for a new comic strip based on my experiences as a third shift night auditor at the hotel where I work. The name (The Front Desk) came to me while I was tossing around ideas with a co-worker. It seemed like it was meant to be. I mean, people have written books while whiling away the late hours on a third shift (and even had them published) so why not a comic strip?

Last night at work I had an idea for the strip and decided to give it some life in Photoshop. Whenever we leave the front desk we put up this little gold-plated sign that says Be Right Back and I thought it would be comical to have it say something else. It's just a rough sketch experimenting with color and background elements. I haven't decided yet if it will be a one strip (like The Far Side) or the typical three-to-four-panel.

My pen name when I draw comics is D.C.Wayne. It's actually my real name with the initials moved around. I've always liked artists and authors who have initials in their names so I did likewise with mine.

Excellent work and the idea of starting a comic strip on your blog just make me curious for the next one ;)

"The little gold-plated sign that says Be Right Back" LOL Hope that no hotel guests complained for no service at the front desk afterward. Better put a nice mannequin to comfort them :p

I'll get some more up soon. This is a the BIG weekend (July 4) so I'm pretty busy. I thought the sign could be like a running gag; have it say something different each time.
